Partners may vote by normal majority or qualified majority on some issues. An example of the latter is requiring 70 percent of votes for investments larger than $1 million. Blocking votes may also be used. For example, if in the last example one partner has 31 percent of the votes, that partner can block a large investment but cannot block decisions made on other issues. The right to veto can also be defined. If voting is used, the next question is how to divide the votes among the partners. Again, different systems are possible: one man one vote gives each partner one vote, or votes may be allocated based on partner size, the investments made, or the number of clients brought into the alliance.
