Camping & RV Northern California presents an outstanding range of camping and RV opportunities. Most of the camping sites are part of the extensive state and national park system and can be reserved with a call to a reservation system. The number for national parks is 800-4367275; for state parks reservations, 800-444-7275. Besides parks, there are national forests in California with campgrounds, some of which are reservable (800-280-2267). Regional park systems provide further options. For each of our six areas of California, we'll suggest some good camping and RV options.

Com. Acknowledgments We wish to thank the knowledgeable people from various parts of Northern California who have helped us with information and insight during our research. We salute all the talented and dedicated people in tourism who make the travel experience in Northern California so extraordinary for everyone. Unfortunately, space does not permit us to list the hundreds of people who helped us. But let the following represent all the good tourism folks in their regions. Considering Northern California as a whole, we thank Fred Sater (California Division of Tourism).

While the struggles against further environmental degradation continue, Northern California is a world leader in environmental awareness and protection. Humboldt State University at Arcata recently set before its students the question of determining whether the school mascot, the Lumberjack, should be replaced by the name of an endangered species, the marble murrelet.
